Changes in your personal and employment status are referred to as life events. Certain life events such as marriage, birth of a child, a change from part-time to full-time, a layoff, a return from a leave of absence or a change from non-benefits eligible to benefits eligible are considered qualifying life events and may affect your benefits eligibility or may allow you to make some changes to your benefits outside of Open Enrollment. For example, when an associate gets married, the associate can add or drop the spouse and/or dependent coverage.

How and when to make a change:

You have up to 30 days from the date of the status change to make changes (60 days under CHIP).
To make changes to your benefits, log into myAGBenefits or call 1-877-213-6240.
To change your beneficiaries for Group Life Insurance and AD&D Insurance:
- To change your life insurance beneficiary log into myAGBenefits and click on the Change My Benefits/Update Life/Add Beneficiary button. The beneficiary named for group life insurance will also apply to AD&D coverage. Paper forms can be printed off here.
To change your beneficiary for your Retirement Savings Plan, contact Vanguard at 1-800-523-1188 or go to www.vanguard.com/retirementplans.
To change your beneficiary for your Health Savings Account (HSA), contact AGBenefits Advisor at 1-800-397-9249 or go to www.optumbank.com.

Birth/Adoption/Legal Guardianship/Foster Child – New benefits-eligible children
Change in Your Employment Status – You change from part-time to full-time status (or vice-versa)
Change in Residency – A change in your residency that impacts your benefits (medical/dental only)
Child Becomes Ineligible – Due to child age
Death of a Dependent – Your spouse or child pass away
Death of an Associate – You pass away
Change in Employment Status - Disability – You become disabled and take a leave of absence
Divorce/Annulment/Legal Separation – Your marriage ends
Judgment/Decree/Order Requiring Coverage – You receive a court order requiring coverage for your dependent
Layoff – You are laid off from employment
Leave of Absence – You take a FMLA leave, a personal non-FMLA leave, or a military leave
Change in Spouse’s Employment Status– Your spouse gains/loses benefit eligibility from his/her employer
Marriage – Acquiring a new dependent through marriage
Termination of Employment and/or Retirement – You are permanently terminated and/or retire from employment
Significant Change in Coverage – A significant change in your coverage
